Ocean SF Brings Sustainable Sailing Apparel to the Newport International Boat Show
San Francisco, California, April 17, 2019 – Ocean SF will be attending the Newport Beach Boat Show at the Lido Marina on April 25th. This will be the first boat show attended by the retailer. The sailing apparel company lead by CEO Sydney Chaney Thomas makes sailing apparel of natural fabrics including Merino Wool and linen.
“This will be a great experience for Ocean SF giving the company exposure and allowing us to talk directly to our customers,” says Sydney Chaney Thomas. Sydney has been at the helm of the start up for the past three years working to produce sportswear made from only sustainable and zero waste fabrics.
The Ocean SF signature jacket and hoodie are both made by hand in San Francisco of 100% Merino Wool. The fabric was custom milled for Ocean SF by a local company. It is tightly woven on the outside to keep the wind out and has an interior loft to keep warmth in.
“Wool is also hyperthermic to keep sailors warm even if the fabric gets wet. This is a major differentiating feature over polyester fabrics. Polyester fleece is not warm once it gets wet, it is also a known pollutant as it sheds partials into our water systems when washed,” explains Sydney.
Sydney started Ocean SF after searching for clothing to keep her warm while sailing. As a avid skier and ski instructor, Sydney wanted to buy the right gear when she started sailing. She was surprised to find so few options and none that addressed what happens when you take a wave down your back and everything you are wearing gets wet.
Ocean SF has focused on the mid-layer to be worn by sailors under a storm jacket in harsh conditions or alone on milder days. The signature jacket comes with a zipper option on the sleeves to allow quick on-off without taking off the necessary sailing gloves.
Ocean SF has expanded their line this season adding different weight hoodies, swimwear and coverups in linen and zero waste fabrics.

Congrats!
