As many know, Ocean SF has been my passion project for 9 years. I remember a friend of mine with a successful company told me at the start that the business will change you, and that has been especially true for me and Ocean SF, and probably for everyone who comes into the company and begins to work on the principles that we value, such as hardwork, strong leadership, integrity, environmental concerns, and ethical practices.
This summer, I had five incredible interns, and several have decided to stay on throughout the school year. Surprisingly, over the past few months, I have hired two more who are looking for work experience after graduating. Ocean SF is always full of surprises. It is wonderful to have one of them join us after having modeled for us in 2021. It is truly a full-circle moment.
At the onset, our signature jacket was the International Orange Merino Wool midlayer. Getting it made was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. We milled the wool, created the pattern, and had them manufactured in stages at our factory on Jessie Street in San Francisco. Now we are down to the last of the wool and the last of the inventory, and soon we will be totally sold out.
During the Rolex Big Boat Series in September, I encountered a customer who had purchased one of my midlayers seven years ago. He has since moved to England, but was back for the Rolex races, and he told me he had worn his Ocean SF that day, and he has been wearing it for seven years!
It was such a validating moment for me to have testimony that what I make can stand the test of time and be so loved.
We plan to sell out all of our inventory by the end of the year. This is something that I am incredibly proud of. It’s an exciting time for us, as we will have a clean slate and the sky is the limit for what we will create next. However, we will continue to make soft, warm, sustainable, and long-lasting midlayers.
